Volunteers Needed for RESCHEDULED Point-in-Time Homeless Count Feb. 6th

Our most pressing need currently is for volunteers to help with the Point in Time Homeless Count THIS WEDNESDAY, Feb. 6th, which is coordinated by The Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County. The census happens every other year, regardless of the weather, and our Maywood office located at 1851 S. 9th Avenue is the meeting location for the West Region. No previous experience is needed. Training and dinner are provided starting at 7pm.  The Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County is the coordinator of a federally mandated homeless count, or census, that occurs every other year. During this single night, over one hundred volunteers canvass the streets in groups of three or four and attempt to count every person living outside in suburban Cook.

The Count helps find and connect those not stay in shelters to resources, and raise awareness about the issue of homelessness. Results of the Count are reported to the federal government in order to secure funds for homelessness programs and create a baseline for continued efforts to end homelessness in suburban Cook County. This is a major undertaking and we need your help!
