We are so thankful for volunteer, John Fjortoft

Our work is largely made possible by vital volunteers who lend an open heart and a helping hand. Housing Forward recognizes volunteers as "everyday heroes" who come from all walks of life and all ages with something special to offer. This month, we’d like to spotlight Jon Fjortoft.

Local Oak Park resident John Fjortoft has been a longtime supporter of Housing Forward. Volunteering for over six years in our Prevail Program, Jon lends his time as an emergency assistance volunteer. As with many of our volunteers, Jon has been regarded as having a great ability to think outside of the box and come up with helpful solutions to assist our clients. Recently, an elderly Oak Park client was presented with a shut-off notice due to their inability to pay their water bill on time. Having to make monthly payments in person was very problematic for this person because of their lack of mobility. In order to help solve this problem, Jon offered to go to the Village Hall and make the payments in person for the client. This is just one of the many ways in which Jon has shown compassion and has gone above and beyond to help others.

Housing Forward is proud to recognize Jon as one of our outstanding volunteers. As he volunteers his time and energy in our Emergency Assistance program, he serves as an agent of progressive change, amity and compassion in his community as he helps to forward our mission. Thank you!
