House to Home Kits Needed!

When a Housing Forward client gets the keys to their new home, they’re often moving in with nothing but the clothes on their back. So far this year, 96 people have transitioned from homelessness into a home of their own, including 21 individuals in May. Additionally, five families with young children have been approved for housing and are waiting to move in!
This progress is exactly what we work toward, but it also means we need YOUR help to ensure each person has what they need to thrive in their new home.
This is a great opportunity for churches and other groups to work together. First United Church of Oak Park is a frequent House to Home kit donor, completing collections as a congregation. More than doing good, House to Home kit donors support the independence of our clients and provide a sense of normalcy. "We know that families thrive when they feel the stability, security, and comforts of a home," says Tara Dull, member of First United Church of Oak Park.
You can help turn an empty apartment into a safe, welcoming space by choosing one of two ways to support:
1. Donate a House to Home Kit
House to Home Kits provide the essentials that support a fresh start and a stable transition out of homelessness. This is a great project for small groups; congregations, coworkers, neighbors, or friends. Together you work to collect common household items (e.g. cleaning supplies, bed sheets, pots and pans, etc.) to help outfit an apartment. If your group is interested, you can also help set up the apartment by cleaning, unpacking supplies, and stocking cabinets.

2. Furnish an Apartment
A $250 gift allows us to furnish an entire apartment through our partnership with the Chicago Furniture Bank. Imagine moving from a shelter setting into your new home and being able to choose your own dining table, bed, and couch. If you are interested in furnishing an apartment, please select "Yes, direct my donation to the House to Home initiative to provide household items for those moving" upon check out.
