Housing Forward is embarking on its most ambitious project to date. In spring 2023, we broke ground on a new permanent supportive housing development. Located in Broadview, Illinois, this new construction project will include 16 units of permanent supportive housing and provide long-term and on-site supportive services for individuals and families with a disability who are exiting homelessness.

What is Permanent Supportive Housing?

Permanent supportive housing combines affordable housing assistance with voluntary support services to address the needs of chronically homeless people. The services are designed to build independent living and tenancy skills and connect people with community-based health care, treatment and employment services. Permanent supportive housing has helped decrease the number of chronically homeless individuals by more than 20 percent since 2007.

Who is eligible?

Adults and families who have experienced homelessness and also have a long-term disabling condition that creates challenges to traditional housing. The building will provide 16 residential units, including dedicated units for veterans, transition-aged youth, ages 18 to 24, and families. These units will allow us greater flexibility in supporting men, women, and families who rely on this housing model to thrive.
