The mission of Housing Forward is to transition people from housing crisis to housing stability. We believe our vision to end homelessness in west Cook County is best advanced when we embrace diversity as a value and a practice. Thus, as an organization we value inclusiveness and strive to consider the unique perspectives of persons from varying backgrounds and experiences (e.g., racial, ethnic, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, military/veteran, geographical, religious, socioeconomic, and population served). Throughout our work, we will support diversity in all of its forms.
Policy Framework
Housing Forward recognizes that its effectiveness will be enhanced and its mission well served when the practice of diversity is reflected in all aspects of the organization, and specifically when:
- Board Membership - The Board of Directors of Housing Forward endeavors to reflect the rich diversity of the suburban cook county area. The Board’s commitment to diversity and supporting organizational goals may be found in Article XV of the Bylaws.
- Employment - The staff of Housing Forward reflects the communities of suburban Cook County.
- Vendors - Housing Forward vendor community demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion as a practice. This commitment is reflected in governance practices, hiring practices and organizational philosophy. Preference is given to vendors with a proven record of this commitment to diversity.
